On Sunday 12 Feb pro cyclist Piotr Havik treated us on some amazing cycling race stories. Piotr is a professional Dutch cyclist, born in 1994 in Gouda. He’s been riding for different top teams (Team Katusha Alpecin, BEAT Cycling) and has achieved some impressive victories like the GP Stad Zottegem (2019) and the Ronde van Overijssel (2018). He also is an extremely good gravel cyclist and ended up 12th at the last World Championships Gravel!
Piotr shared his experiences about life as a pro with us. He told us all about how to prepare for a race, team tactics and different types of riders (climbers, punchers, sprinters …). We watched various fragments together on the big screen at our clubhouse Thúskomme. Piotr talked us through it and told us all the ins and outs about what’s actually happening before, during and after a race. What’s happening in a sprint, a breakaway? When and how do you make adjustments?
We learned how to read a race and our members asked Piotr literally anything they always had wanted to know.
We finished the event with an informal drink and chat at the bar. Inspiring event, thanks Piotr!
