Who doesn’t know the famous song – Het Land van Maas en Waal – of Boudewijn de Groot? On Whit Sunday, 28 May, we went out to this isolated part of Gelderland with its nostalgic character. We had prepared a beautiful – new! – 110km route along the deltas and the big rivers the Maas and Waal, over the dykes and through idyllic villages.
Riding along the Waal in the north and the Maas in the south.
We started in Maren-Kessel, on the left bank of the Maas. With great teamwork and a social pace the kilometres flew by. We rode clockwise through this beautiful wetland area and before we knew it we arrived in Niftrik where we stopped for a great lunch.
The last part of the ride went along the northern part of the Maas. Taking the ferry to bring us to the other side of the river, towards the end of our ride back to Maren-Kessel. What a nice and sunny day it was, great ride, great vibe!
