We looooove Spain! For the 3rd year in a row, we organised an epic trip to this ultimate haven for road cyclists. We explored the most beautiful roads of Catalonia, enjoying everything a cyclist could dream of: rolling landscapes, tough climbs and challenging descents, a stunning reservoir and breathtaking views of the Catalan coastline. No better way to get back into the saddle at the start of the new cycling season!
Each of the five cycling days offered a beautiful route in a different direction. Thanks to the heavy rains in the weeks before our arrival, the landscape was incredibly lush and green. Luckily, when we arrived, the sun came out and we were treated to perfect, dry riding conditions under a bright blue sky. To keep our energy up, we made sure to enjoy a delicious lunch stop every day, the perfect way to refuel.
One of the most memorable moments came on the 2nd day, when a fierce storm swept through the region. While the official Volta a Catalunya race was shortened – on request of the pros! – due to the weather, our members were unstoppable. Braving winds of up to 8 Beaufort, they powered through a long and wild ride all the way to the coast. Almost blown off their bikes but smiling all the way!
Highlights of the trip included the climb to Mare de Deu del Mont, where Paul soared to the summit like a true mountain goat. Iris showed off her climbing legs on Els Angels, and Josefine delivered an impressive performance on the legendary Rocacorba. To celebrate their achievements, each of them received a special prize: a fridge magnet of their conquered peaks, a small but proud souvenir of an unforgettable adventure:-)
At the end of the day, we immersed ourselves in the rich culture, vibrant atmosphere, and stunning vistas Girona has to offer. Replaying the day’s events and looking forward to the next. Having a drink at cycling cafés like La Fábrica, enjoying the international cuisine and refuelling for the next ride:-)
As proud PEAK-ers we look back on another adventurous week filled with camaraderie and breathtaking scenic routes. Different speeds, different strengths, but one shared passion pushing us all forward. Every challenge conquered, every summit reached.
