Sunday 6 June. What a great day it was for a 100+ km ride through beautiful Brabant. Birthplace of many cycling champions like Marianne Vos, Adrie en Mathieu van der Poel and Steven Kruijswijk.
Our trainer Rob planned a beautiful route that started at his father’s (Jan) home in Vught. This 82(!) year old has cycling running through his veins, is still riding his bike and gave us a warm southern welcome.
Jan livened up our lunch break with strong cycling stories from his early days when he competed with Jan Janssen (first ever Dutch Tour de France winner) and Raymond Poulidor (Mathieu van der Poel’s grandpa). And told us about some interesting facts about the villages and sites along the way.
In honour of Jan and his passion for cycling, we’re going to call our yearly Brabant Social Ride the Jan Klerkx Classic. See you next year!?
